The Simpsons are sticking around!

Fox announced Friday that the popular animated comedy series has been renewed for two more seasons, which means it will run at  least until Season 30 and have a total of 669 episodes. It will surpass the classic western series Gunsmoke (635 episodes) as the longest-running scripted series in regards to the amount of episodes aired.

“Take that Gunsmoke! You lost a race you didn’t even know you were running!” Homer Simpson said in a statement.

“This is yet another record-setting moment for what is truly a landmark series,” Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group, said. “The Simpsons has meant so much to the network, the studio and everyone at Fox, and its continued cultural impact around the globe is a testament to the combined brilliance of [exec producers] Matt, Jim and Al.”

The six main voice actors – Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria, and Harry Shearer – are all signed on for the next two seasons.

The Simpsons, which has won 32 Emmy Awards, is currently in its 28th season and aired its 600th episode last month which was its annual Halloween special, “Treehouse of Horror.”
