“The Daily Show” is no longer Jon Stewart-less.
Tuesday night, Stewart returned to “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central after a three month hiatus. The comedian spent the summer directing and producing a movie called Rosewater, based on journalist Maziar Bahari’s memoir Then They Came For Me: A Family’s Story of Love, Captivity and Survival.
Correspondent John Oliver filled in for Stewart during his hiatus. In a skit featuring Stephen Colbert, Oliver welcomed Stewart back and filled him in on all the news stories he missed, including the Paula Deen scandal and Miley Cyrus’ obscene MTV VMAs performance.
When Stewart returned to his desk, he whispered to the audience, “I’ve missed you so much. You don’t know what it’s like in the real world. Nobody applauds every stupid (expletive) thing that you do.”
The host also played a clip of President Obama supporting military action against Syria. “America taking military action against a Middle East regime? It’s like I never left,” Stewart remarked.
In addition to his comedic skits (which featured many costume changes from Miley Cyrus to Sherlock Holmes and Freddie Mercury), Stewart conducted a serious interview with Andrew Harper, head of the United Nations Refugee Agency in Jordan, to talk about the two million refugees who had to flee their homes in Syria.
“The Daily Show” airs Monday through Thursday at 10pm (CST) on Comedy Central.
