Glee executive producer Ryan Murphy announced that season five will be adding Adam Lambert to its cast this fall.
Murphy announced the news of adding former American Idol season 8 runner-up, Adam Lambert, on Wednesday via Twitter telling fans, “I am thrilled to announce that the super talented Adam Lambert is joining the cast of Glee this fall.”
Landing a role on Glee is a dream come true for the former Idol singer, and he feels that the scripted singing series is “so cute” and “really paints a picture of what it’s like to be an arts kid in high school”, Lambert said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter back in January 2012.
Adam started his career in musical theater, notably in the musical version of The Ten Commandments, starring Val Kilmer, but this would be Lambert’s first official acting role on a television series. Lambert did recently appear as himself and performed on the ABC show Pretty Little Liars.
This will not be the show’s first Idol cast member. Last season Idol runner-up Jessica Sanchez had a multiple-episode role on the Ohio-set side of the series, where she played the role of a diva singer at a rival glee club. Murphy and FOX executives have not confirmed any details yet if Lambert’s role will be a series regular or a recurring guest spot for season five.
Glee is not only known for its talented cast, but for its history of booking big-name guest stars on the show. In season four Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Hudson both had recurring roles on the show. The series will see some of its original cast members and fan favorites like Heather Morris, Mark Salling, Amber Riley and Harry Shum Jr on the show. Currently the show splits its focus between its Ohio and New York sets.
Glee returns for Season 5 on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. on Fox.
