Jimi Hendrix played his first British concert, on a bill with Cat Stevens, The Walker Brothers, and Englebert Humperdinck at the Rainbow Theatre in Finsbury Park, England. On a whim, Hendrix set fire to his guitar with lighter fluid for the first time, but burned his hands so badly that he was admitted to a nearby hospital. The Fender Stratocaster burned on stage was sold for £280,000 at a 2008 London auction of rock memorabilia.
