Grammy winning rock band System of a Down are currently discussing the possibility of making a new album. SOAD’s Serj Tankian revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone that the band mates could start working on the new album after their U.S. and international tour.
“There has been talk, and we are going to play this tour, come back and we’re going to see where we are,” Tankian said. “If we have songs that work for SYSTEM, if I have them and Daron has them. The openness is there to work together, but we haven’t made any particular plans that we can announce.”
The last time System of a Down released new music was in 2005 with Mezmerize and Hypnotize, both albums debuting just six months apart. Since then the band has not released new music, but did decide to start touring again in 2011.
For now, SOAD lead singer Serj says that he is focusing on making a film based on the Armenian genocide titled “1915”. The SOAD group members are all children of survivors of the genocide,. To bring awareness to the event, the band will name their international tour “Wake Up the Souls” to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the genocide. The band also has plans to live-stream their upcoming concert in Yerevan, Armenia around the world to bring additional awareness.
The “Wake Up the Souls” tour kicks off on Monday, April 6th in Inglewood, CA.
