It’s been nearly four years since Shakira has delivered an album, with 2010’s Sale el Sol (The Sun Comes Out) being her last release, but today the Colombian-born songstress makes her return.
Shakira’s tenth, self-titled album hit stores this morning, March 25, and to celebrate, she unleashed the music video for “Empire.” Trailing behind the Rihanna duet “Can’t Remember To Forget You,” which peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 when released at the beginning of the year and marked the homecoming of the much-loved singer-songwriter, the Alanis Morissette-inspired “Empire” is the second single and music video from Shakira’s brand new self-titled album.
The video for the song, directed by Darren Craig, Jonathan Craven and Jeff Nicholas, is a stunning visual. The four-minute clip shows the gorgeous Shakira playing a runaway bride who arrives at her wedding and, before stepping two heels inside the church doors, realizes that she’s not really ready to marry her groom (who, if you’ll notice, isn’t even present). She makes a quick exit from the building, and heads running Sound Of Music-style towards the mountains! Watch the glamorous, just-released music video for “Empire” below.
Shakira, who has been in a relationship with Spanish football player Gerard Pique since 2011, has never wed. Her brand new self-titled album featuring hit single “Can’t Remember To Forget You” with Rihanna is available for purchase in stores and online now.
