Pink Floyd To Release First Album in 20 Years

It’s been over 20 years since Pink Floyd released their last album, 1994’s The Division Bell, but the band is getting ready to release a brand-new record this fall. Guitarist David Gilmour’s wife Polly Samson broke the news on Twitter, writing: “Btw Pink Floyd album out in October is called “The Endless River”. Based on 1994 sessions is Rick Wright’s swansong and very beautiful.”

Touring vocalist Durga McBroom-Hudson, who sang backup with the group throughout the 1980s and 1990s, confirmed Polly’s reveal on her Facebook page, posting a photo from a recording session and writing:

“The recording did start during ‘The Division Bell’ sessions (and yes, it was the side project originally titled “The Big Spliff” that [Floyd drummer] Nick Mason spoke about). Which is why there are Richard Wright tracks on it. But David and Nick have gone in and done a lot more since then. It was originally to be a completely instrumental recording, but I came in last December and sang on a few tracks. David then expanded on my backing vocals and has done a lead on at least one of them. That’s the song you see being worked on in the photo.”

The band’s longtime engineer Andy Jackson also confirmed the album’s release.

So it’s official. Pink Floyd will follow-up their last full-length release with The Endless River, a disc consisting entirely of previously unreleased tracks. The upcoming album is based on a 1994 recording session with the late multi-instrumentalist Richard Wright, which began during sessions for The Division Bell.

A tracklist for The Endless River has not yet been released, but the album is reportedly due out sometime in October. As of now, there are no plans for touring behind the forthcoming release.
