Tuesday means new music! Your choices this week? How about Chris Isaak, Jane’s Addiction and Noel Gallagher (of Oasis fame).
Chris Isaak “Beyond The Sun”
Back in 2000, Chris Isaak ran across an interview with legendary music producer Sam Phillips. Yes, THE Sam Phillips who ran the music studio in Memphis that discovered and produced legendary artists like Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison and many, many more.
When Phillips was asked about current artists he admired, Phillips said, “I don’t keep up with the business like I used to, but I love to listen to Chris Isaak. He’s very talented, and his music is so damned honest. It’s incredible.”
Isaak saw this and fast tracked this new 2 disc collection of tunes paying tribute to the Sun Records studio. Songs include “Ring of Fire”, “Great Balls of Fire”, Can’t Help Falling In Love”- all done with Isaak’s flair. You want this album.
This video is just cool.
Jane’s Addiction “The Great Escape Artist”
It has been 8 years since this legendary alt-rock band has released an album. Writing began in 2010 for “Great Escape” and we now finally get to hear the results of the latest collaboration between Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Stephen Perkins and TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek, who played bass on the record.
Early reviews of this new album are positive saying that “Great Escape” has the classic sounds of early Jane’s Addiction but also moves the band forward to 2011. For hardcore Jane’s fans (like me), that’s great news.
Noel Gallagher “Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds”
This writeup comes with a disclaimer. I am a HUGE Oasis fan. In fact, my dog is named Liam.
Yes, I am disappointed we may never hear another new Oasis album because of the constantly feuding Gallagher brothers. Liam released the debut full length from his solo band, Beady Eye, earlier this year. This is Noel’s entry.
“Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds” is Noel’s first solo project since the much publicized split with Oasis. Why am I, as an avid fan, excited about hearing these tracks? Because it was Noel who is credited for being the songwriter, producer and guitarist for the supergroup that sold over 70 million records worldwide.
