Maroon 5 Keeps PSY From #1 Spot

Adam Levin and Maroon 5 are keeping Korean newcomer PSY from reaching the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The race for the top spot has remained extremely close for the last two weeks.  The battle between “One More Night” by Maroon 5  and PSY’s “Gangnam Style” has been the closest contest between a #1 and #2 spot since mid-February.  Over the past week “Nights” gained a 1% increase on the chart while “Style” dropped by a percent.

What’s keeping PSY from gaining the #1 spot?  More airplay.

While “Style” is still considered an adolescent in its radio life, the catchy Korean pop tune’s radio audience surged by 22% this past week.  Although it was not enough to catch up to Maroon 5, PSY is leading the way in streaming and sales.  “Style” easily surpassed 1 million On-Demand streams while “Night” saw a 1% increase of streams to 816,000 (so far the song’s highest weekly total).

What does this mean in the long run?

PSY is gaining momentum.  Although he does not yet have the radio airplay needed to gain the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, he is dominating the competition in online streams and sales.

So, it’s all going to come down to your local radio station spinning “Gangnam Style” until your ears bleed.  Call your favorite radio stations and request PSY’s “Gangnam Style”.

Then, a once-unknown Korean pop singer will reach the #1 spot in the music industry’s largest market and secure his place in history.
