Lana Del Rey Scores First No. 1 with ‘Ultraviolence’

Lana Del Rey has scored her first No. 1 album! The singer-songwriter’s recently-released Ultraviolence stormed to the top of this week’s Billboard 200, selling an impressive 182,000 copies in its first week on shelves and marking Del Rey’s best sales week yet.

In addition to topping charts and breaking personal records, Lana Del Rey is also challenging the records of other artists. With Ultraviolence, the “Summertime Sadness” singer racked up the largest sales week for any female artist this year. The last female artist to garner such outstanding sales was Beyonce in the week ending Dec. 29, 2013, when her surprise self-titled album sold a whopping 310,000 copies in its third week on the albums chart.

Following previous album releases like 2010’s Lana Del Ray and 2012’s Born to Die, Ultraviolence stands as Del Rey’s third studio album. The record features singles “West Coast,” “Shades Of Cool,” “Ultraviolence,” and “Brooklyn Baby,” as well as other dark-and-dreary songs from the songstress.

Lana Del Rey released Ultraviolence on June 17.
