In Concert: Tool at Viejas Arena

Tool FI

After a long hiatus, Tool is finally back on the road. The band kicked off their US tour on January 6th in San Francisco, California for a two night show, and the band just finished another back to back show last night in San Diego at Viejas Arena. The set included songs from their earlier days such as “Forty Six & 2” and “Stinkfist”, while also playing some of their latest such as “Jambi” and “Parabola”.

Philip Cosores, of Consequence of Sound, was beyond pleased by the live performance saying “And maybe it goes without saying, but all four members of the band haven’t lost a step as transfixing musicians, including bassist Justin Chancellor’s iconic riff throughout “Schism” and percussionist Danny Carey’s working of the double bass drums as “Ænema” built to its explosive conclusion.” While praising the duo of guitarist Adam Jones and frontman Maynard James Keenan saying that “the pairing of Jones’ art projections and Keenan’s inimitable voice…is the glue holding the band together.”

Its been close to two years since we’ve seen the band tour, perhaps its a sign that Tool will be releasing a new album soon? Rolling Stone spoke to guitarist Adam Jones about the progress of the album where he said “My philosophy has always been, ‘It’s not good when it’s done, it’s done when it’s good”.

For now we will cry tears of joy in seeing Tool live once again!
