(NewsCore) – Adele announced Friday she has canceled all her remaining performances in 2011 as she plans to have surgery to repair her vocal chords.
“It is with deep regret that Adele has been forced to cancel her remaining live dates and promotional appearances in 2011. She is to undergo surgery to alleviate the current issues with her throat and a full recovery is expected,” said a statement on her website.
Canceled shows include ten US dates in October which had already been canceled earlier in the month, plus six November shows in the UK.
The statement goes on to say that doctors have ordered the singer “to rest her voice and completely recuperate before looking to schedule any work commitments.”
The 23-year-old chart darling has battled issues with her voice and was forced to cancel a June US tour due to a severe bout of laryngitis.
She spent the summer recovering and tried to make a comeback in September but developed a respiratory and chest infection and had to bow out of several re-scheduled shows.
“Singing is literally my life, its my hobbie, my love, my freedom and now my job. I have absolutely no choice but to recuperate properly and fully, or i risk damaging my voice forever,” the distraught Grammy winner wrote in a blog posting in early October.
Adele’s album “21” was released in January and she has earned rave reviews for her singles “Someone Like You” and “Rolling in the Deep.”
Her sophomore effort is currently the bestselling album of 2011 so far, in both the US and the UK.
