Warner Bros. has brought on Jay Chandrasekhar (Super Troopers/Beerfest) to rewrite and direct the sequel to 2010’s Yogi Bear. Based on the Hanna-Barbera cartoon series, Yogi Bear scored over $200 million at the box office despite negative reviews from film critics and a 13% “Rotten” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Although Chandrasekhar has previously directed one major studio film before, The Dukes of Hazzard, his latest directorial effort, The Babymakers, made only $7,889 theatrically and obtained a 9% “Rotten” rating. Yes, less than $10,000.
The 2010 Eric Brevig-directed Yogi Bear starred Dan Akroyd as the voice of Yogi Bear, Justin Timberlake as Boo-Boo Bear and Tom Cavanagh as Ranger Smith. There is no word as to whether any of these actors will return for the sequel.
