Seth Macfarlane, creator of lovably crude adult cartoon Family Guy, has done it! After a more than excitable international opening this past weekend, the Universal/Media Rights Capital comedy Ted has surpassed The Hangover as highest grossing R-rated comedy internationally.
The Hangover held the title steady since its opening in summer of 2009 with $467.5 million gained. Ted inched its way to record holder at an estimated $469 million this week;topping charts at #1 or #2 in several European countries. Ted is now open in 44 international territories with 4 more to come. Ted has been playing domestically for 16 weeks.
Seth MacFarlane co-wrote, directed, and starred in the film alongside Mark Whalberg and Mila Kunis. MacFarlane is currently working on a live-action comedy series for Fox about two men in their thirties who’s Father’s make an unexpected decision to move in with them.
