“Fifty Shades of Grey” Sequels Announced

Fifty Shades of Grey is still days away from it’s theatrical release but two sequels have already been announced.

Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed were were announced Friday morning, February 6th, during the “Fifty Shades First” fan screening event at New York’s Zeigfeld Theater according to MTV. The event was attended by stars Jamie Dornan, Dakota Johnson, the film’s director Sam Taylor-Johnson, and the novel’s writer E.L. James.

While it’s more typical for sequels of a film to be green-lit and announced after their initial performances at the box office Fifty Shades of Grey may be setting the new standard. Screenings have already sold out in Houston, New York, Los Angeles, and San Diego while a number of states have seen two to three times more presale tickets than expected. The film is the fastest selling R rated title in Fandango’s 15 year history.

Fifty Shades of Grey open just in time for Valentine’s Day on Friday February 13th.
