Lady Gaga portrays Patrizia Reggianai, an assertive young woman who marries into the Gucci family. Once rejected by her new husband’s father, she allies with Uncle Aldo (Al Pacino). His son, Paolo (Jared Leto) joined the mix of the family deemed different. Leto’s character portrays a young aspiring fashion designer and unskilled businessman with no talent for both. Blood boils and tensions rise after the family’s legacy unravels throughout the story that spans three decades worth of disputes.
The film is based on a true event.
Lady Gaga’s Transformation
Gaga explained how it took a mental and physical transformation to become Reggianai. “I’d say truly the most challenging part was playing a murderer,” Gaga told Variety’s Marc Malkin at the film’s red-carpet premiere. “But I will say that after a lot of research, I realized that she knows that she made a big mistake, and it was a lot of trauma that drove her towards this huge mistake that I know she regrets. So when you go see ‘House of Gucci,’ you will not watch a movie about some sexy, gold-digging murderess. You will watch a real woman fall in love and fall apart.”
Jared Leto’s Transformation
Undoubtedly, Leto is known for his powerful character transformations throughout his career. Once again, he delivered an out of body performance. “The most important thing is the heart, the soul and the spirit of the character because without that you have nothing,” Leto shared with Variety. “It was an immersive experience which I loved.”
Gaga and Leto’s Deliverance
Both Gaga and Leto immersed into their character and stood out to all involved in the film who experienced their greatness first-hand. “Both of them spoke all the time with an accent. They were never out of character through the whole movie,” producer Giannina Facio said. “Even when we had dinner and stuff, they were in character.”
Director Ridely Scott shared his feelings about Gaga’s acting. “Gaga had her own methodology. I wouldn’t call it method, but I would it immersing in character,” he said. Fellow cast member Jeremy Irons (Rodolfo Gucci) also shared how both Gaga and Leto stood out throughout the process.
House of Gucci is now out in theaters. In the meantime, check out their transformations in the trailer below!
