THE SHAPE OF WATER: How Doug Jones Became Amphibian Man

Jones has now appeared in six of Gillermo del Toro’s films.

Doug Jones is one of the most versatile actors in Hollywood, often collaborating with Gillermo del Toro to become his go-to actor for roles like “Abe Sapien” in Hellboy, “Fauno/Pale Man” in Pans Labyrinth, and “Edith’s Mother/Lady Sharpe” in Crimson Peak.

This time Doug Jones plays “Amphibian Man” in del Toro’s The Shape of Water. The star sits down with BackstageOL’s Dave Morales, along with his co-star Richard Jenkins, to talk about transforming into the character and working with del Toro on the film.

The film’s synopsis:

Elisa is a mute, isolated woman who works as a cleaning lady in a hidden, high-security government laboratory in 1962 Baltimore. Her life changes forever when she discovers the lab’s classified secret — a mysterious, scaled creature from South America that lives in a water tank. As Elisa develops a unique bond with her new friend, she soon learns that its fate and very survival lies in the hands of a hostile government agent and a marine biologist.

The Shape of Water in theaters December 15th! For more from Jones, check out the full interview below!
