Jon Stenvall sat down with Kevin Dillion to talk about this new film Hot Seat. In it, Dillion plays a former hacker turned IT expert.
His character’s life gets turned upside down when someone straps a bomb to his chair and forces him to use his hacking skills to steal millions.
This heart-pounding thriller also stars Mel Gibson as a bomb expert to tries to help Dillion escape the chair and clear his name.
Tick Tick Boom!
When asked to explain the intense setting of Hot Seat’s plot Dillion says “I have a bomb attached to my seat and I don’t know it’s there until the bad guy forces me to hack for him and steal money and sets me up at the same time.”
Portraying someone as technically proficient as a hacker, Stenvall asks Dillon how technically savvy he is in life. “I’m terrible with tech, I don’t know anything about my phone, I can make but that’s about it,” said Dillon. “I had to get a lot of information from people who knew what they were doing with computer hacking.”
If you’ve ever wondered how actors prepare for those intense scenes when they’re under the gun and typing away on a computer as the bad guy threatens to blow up the world.
Well, Dillon explains how he hypes himself up for those scenes, “Sometimes I will stand up and jump around and scream out and I’ll fire myself up and sit back down.”
“This was a trick shoot because I wasn’t actually acting with anyone, I’m looking at speakers and camera and I was limited with my movements,” added Dillon.
Dillon expressed what it was like sharing the big screen with the iconic actor Mel Gibson. “He’s so great, he’s such a good dude, he’s got stories up the ying-yang,” said Dillon jokingly.
“It’s my second time working with him, I worked with him on On The Line which was shot in Paris. He’s really cool and fun to work with, a professional, he’s right on point every take.”
Early Days
When asked what it was like growing up in New York and getting into acting Dillon said “The crazy thing is that growing up was my brother Matt was this huge teen idol, people were driving by the house and girls would literally chase him around like he was one of the Beatles.”
“I got roped into doing a school play, I played Petruchio in The Taming of the Shrew. And I loved it, I loved the response I got and I decided it’s what I wanted to do,” said Dillon.
“I was lucky, I got a couple of good jobs early on, a movie called Heaven Help Us, and then my third movie was Platoon and it just took off from there. ”
Stenvall then asks Dillon what actors he grew up watching as a kid that he never thought that he would be working with. “I would say definitely Mel Gibson for sure, I mean I loved Mel my whole life, loved him as an actor, to work with him was amazing.”
“Denis Quad which I just did the movie Reagan with and I love Denis, I always thought wow what a great actor, and to work with him and Bruce Willis, I’ve been working with all these legendary actors,” added Dillon.
To close the interview Stenvall asks Dillon what project he would love to work on if he could. His answer will have Johnny Drama and Entourage fans delighted.
“Let’s see where they are at in Entourage, let’s see where the guys are today, I’d probably do that, there’s nothing that I love more, I love that show so much and I love that character, so a reboot of Entourage is what I would choose.”
