The ninth installment of the popular video game series God of War is expected to release in 2022 with versions for the PS4 and PS5 in development.
The untitled game was originally was set to launch in 2021. However, Head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hust shared via Playstation post, “we’ve made the decision to push the game out to next year, to ensure that Santa Monica Studio can deliver the amazing God of War game that we all want to play.”
Santa Monica Studio confirms the delay with the statement, “We remain focused on delivering a top-quality game while maintaining the safety and wellbeing of our team, creative partners, and families. With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to shift our release window to 2022.”
The game will be a sequel to 2018’s God of War and is loosely based on Norse mythology with the events of Ragnarok being included in the game.
God of War first released in 2005 on the PlayStation 2 and has become one of the most popular selling video game franchises with over 55 million units sold in the series.
