Disney CEO says ‘Armor Wars’ Will “Scratch the Itch” for More Iron Man

End Game was a masterpiece and a stunning close to a great run for the Avengers saga. Although we had to say goodbye to Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, fans still aren’t ready to fully let them go. Social media is constantly filled with petitions and conversations in regards to Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans donning their superhero suits again, but those two have not officially been written into any script. At least, to our knowledge.

During the 23rd Annual Communications Conference, a fan asked Disney CEO Bob Chapek if Robert Downey Jr would ever return as Iron Man. Chapek responded,  “Tell your Marvel fan that we’ve got a series called Armor Wars coming up, starring Don Cheadle as War Machine… I think that will probably scratch that itch that our fans have for more Iron Man.”

Very interesting response, but it doesn’t answer the question of whether we will be seeing Downey back as Stark or simply Iron Man as a character. Realistically speaking, life after Avengers hasn’t been too kind to RDJ. His last project, Dolittle, performed poorly at the box office and receiving a 14% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Armor Wars is based on the Marvel comic series and will make its way to Disney+ soon. Don Cheadle returns as James Rhodes aka War Machine and must face what happens when Tony Stark’s tech falls into the wrong hands.

It’s no surprise that Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios want to move on from the success of the Avengers characters and tell the stories of the countless others. It’s possible that if they bring Downey back again one final time, we might not want to say bye to him after that, thus bringing us back to square one. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what Don Cheadle’s Armor Wars has in store for us. I have a feeling RDJ will definitely reprise his role, perhaps just for an episode or so.
