President Obama Re-Elected For A Second Term

President Obama will be re-elected for a second term come January, reports CNN.  Currently with 237 votes to Romney’s 205, Obama is expected to receive the remaining votes to be re-elected as President throughout the night.

CNN currently projects that Obama will receive the necessary 270 votes to be re-elected after he wins California (55 votes), Pennsylvania (20 votes) and Michigan (16 electoral votes).  Several states including Florida, Colorado, Ohio and Virginia are still being considered a toss up, but even if Romney wins all of those states, he still wouldn’t receive the necessary 270 electoral votes.

Although President Obama will be receiving the necessary electoral votes over night, he is still neck-in-neck with Romney for the popular vote.  Only three times before has a president been elected without winning the popular vote.  George W. Bush in 2000,  Benjamin Harrison in 1888, and Rutherford B. Hayes in 1876, the latter of which winning by a single electoral vote.

The 2013 Presidential Inauguration will be held on Monday, January 21, 2013.  The inauguration is normally held on January 20th before noon, but since the 20th falls on a Sunday this year, there will be a private ceremony held on the 20th while the public ceremony is held on the 21st.

We at BackstageOL.com would like to thank everyone that early voted and braved the long polling lines on election day to cast their ballot.
