During a visit to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, President Obama demonstrated his beatboxing skills.
At a town hall on Wednesday, President Obama took questions from the crowd of 800 people. Hàng Lâm Trang Anh, a 26-year-old rapper who is known as the “Queen of Hip Hop” in Vietnam and goes by the name Suboi, asked about his thoughts on the importance of arts and culture.
“Before I answer your question, why don’t you give me a little rap?” Obama requested upon learning she was a rapper. “Do you need a little beat?” he asked before briefly attempting to beatbox.
Suboi asked him if he wanted the rap to be in English or in Vietnamese. “In Vietnamese, of course, but I won’t know what it means,” the President replied.
Suboi then explained what she rapped about. “I was just talking about how some people have a lot of money, have big houses but actually are they really happy?”
The two then went on to discuss sexism and stereotypes in the music industry.
