The drama of Amber Heard’s divorce from Johnny Depp has finally come to an end.
The two settled their divorce Tuesday and released the following joint statement:
“Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has lied nor made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm. Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future. Amber will be donating financial proceeds from the divorce to a charity. There will be no further public statements about this matter.”
The now-separated couple met while filming The Rum Diary back in 2009 and were married in February 2015. After about fifteen months of marriage, Heard filed for a divorce from the Pirates of the Caribbean star back in May, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Heard also made claims that Depp abused her physically and verbally and obtained a temporary domestic abuse restraining order against him. Depp denied the accusations.
On Tuesday, Heard withdrew her domestic violence restraining order petition against Depp.
“We are very pleased that this matter has been settled and Amber has been vindicated in the court of public opinion,” Heard’s lawyers Samantha F. Spector and Joseph P. Koenig said in a statement. “The case was incredibly challenging and demanding on everyone involved, but mostly on Amber who showed great grace and strength under fire. It was an honor to represent her.”
A hearing to determine if the order would be extended had originally been scheduled for Wednesday. TMZ reports that Heard filed the case with prejudice, meaning she can never re-file it. The site also reports that Heard received $7 million from Depp in the divorce settlement.
