Yahoo to Air Season Six of ‘Community’

Community fans can now rejoice. After being cancelled last month by NBC, the series has found new life on Yahoo Screen. The video streaming service has ordered a 13-episode sixth season.

“I am very pleased that Community will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo,” said series creator Dan Harmon in a statement. “I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, Big Bang Theory. Look out, Bang Bus!”

Star Joel McHale also responded to the good news, saying, “The reports of our cancellation have been greatly exaggerated.” —Mark Twain (The other version of this quote has been wrong for years). # SixSeasonsAndaMovie is real. Thank you Sony. Thank you Yahoo. Thank you Dan Harmon. And thank you to the greatest f%$#ing fans in the history of the human race. It’s the internet. We can swear now.”

“Yahoo is all about connecting the best creators to the audiences who love their work,” said Yahoo’s CMO, Kathy Savitt. “Community has an incredibly passionate and loyal fan base who have fought hard to keep this amazing show alive. We couldn’t be more excited to work with Dan, Joel, and the entire cast, as well as Sony, to deliver a great season 6.”

Yahoo is currently trying to follow in the footsteps of other online streaming video sites, like Netflix and Amazon Prime, by offering original programming. In April, Yahoo announced its plans to soon have original series and last month Yahoo ordered two original series to become available for binge-watch on its site and its mobile apps.

In addition to Harmon and McHale, stars Yvette Nicole Brown, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Ken Jeong and Jim Rash will return for the sixth season, as well as executive producers Russ Krasnoff, Gary Foster and Chris McKenna. All 13 episodes will be released at once sometime in 2015.
