Will There Be A ‘Dexter’ Spin-off Starring Michael C. Hall?

Last week at the Television Critics Association press tour, Showtime’s president David Nevins announced there is a possibility of a spin-off for the serial killer drama Dexter. However, it would require Michael C. Hall. “If we were to do it, I’d only do it with Michael,” Nivens said.

The series concluded four months ago with a finale episode that upset fans and television critics. Since the show went off the air, Showtime has been thinking of developing a follow-up series. Nevins added, “We continue to talk about it. If we were to do it, we would have to have a very good reason to do it. It’s a new show. I’m not interested in doing it if it’s just a continuation…. I would want to do Dexter in a new concept and configuration. I want it to feel different.”

This week Hall was busy promoting his new film “Cold in July” at the Sundance Film Festival, but spoke about the possibility of participating in a Dexter spin-off. “I can’t even wrap my mind around that. And it’s all just theoretical until there is some sort of script reflecting somebody’s idea of where it could possibly go. But it’s hard for me to imagine what that would be.”

Hall doesn’t seem very eager to return to the role. “Yeah, as far as playing Dexter again for an undefined amount of time, that’s a little daunting to consider. But doing another television series — there’s a lot of amazing stuff on TV. I don’t want to do that right away. But I wouldn’t say never to that.”
