Update: CBS announced on Thursday that Stephen Colbert will replace David Letterman.
After David Letterman made the announcement that he will be retiring in 2015 after 22 years on the “Late Show”, CBS is now looking for a replacement after Letterman leaves. Many comedians and late night talk show hosts like Chelsea Handler and Craig Ferguson are rumored to possibly replace Letterman, but now Drew Carey is also rumored of being considered to replace Letterman on the “Late Show”.
Carey recently filled in for Craig Ferguson on CBS’ “Late Late Show” when they swapped jobs on April Fool’s day having Ferguson host Carey’s Primetime CBS show “The Price is Right” and Carey hosted the “Late Late Show”. Since Fallon has been extremely successful with ratings and attracting a younger audience to the “Tonight Show” since he started in February, CBS might consider having Drew Carey replace Letterman and host the “Late Show” to attract a younger audience and beat NBC’s ratings.
“I don’t honestly know how I could do the Letterman show in New York and “The Price is Right” in L.A. But, I’d like to try!” Drew Carey said.
As for now Carey has apparently not officially engaged in any talks with CBS about replacing Letterman when he retires.
