After a lengthy 8 seasons, the popular Showtime series “Weeds” has finally reached the end. Beginning in 2005, the series has had its highs and lows, with characters coming and going with following the title characters through it all. The sincere, reminiscent hour long series finale last night wrapped it all up better than could have been expected.
The Golden Globe winning series starring Mary-Louise Parker, Hunter Parrish, Alexander Gould, Kevin Nealon, and Justin Kirk welcomed back previously reoccurring characters for the final couple of episodes. Turning the end sentimental with showing character development as well as character ethics – the series redeemed its last couple of seasons’ poorer content with cutting itself off.
After a total of 102 calculated half hour episodes, the cast now has other projects lined up for the near future. In particular, Mary-Louise Parker will appear in “Red 2” next year and Justin Kirk has a new series called “Animal Practice.” Series creator Jenji Kohan is in the works on a new series for next year called “Orange Is the New Black” starring Taylor Schilling.
Showtime has lost one of its shows, but with the season 7 premiere of “Dexter” less than two weeks away – Showtime fans will soon be reassured. David Duchovny will also reprise his role as Hank Moody in “Californication” with the season 6 premiere in January.
