WATCH: Trailer for ‘Sherlock’ Victorian-Era Special Released

The trailer for the new Sherlock special has finally been released.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will be reprising their roles as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, respectfully, for a one-off case in 19th century London. Lestrade (Rupert Graves) and John’s wife Mary (Amanda Abbington) will also appear in the special.

“The stage is set. The curtain rises. We are ready to begin,” Holmes states in the beginning of the trailer, which overall has a gloomy and eerie tone.

“Every great causes has martyrs, every war has suicide missions… and make no mistake, this is war,” Holmes also says.

It is unclear what the plot of the story is based on the trailer, and it is still unknown how the characters are transported to the Victorian era.

A premiere date has not yet been set, but the Sherlock special is expected to air on PBS Masterpiece in 2016.
