‘Walking Dead’ Renewed For Sixth Season

Just days before the premiere of the fifth season, AMC has announced that The Walking Dead will be renewed for season six.

The zombie drama, and T.V.’s No. 1 hit series amongst 18-49 year olds, is based on the popular comics created by Robert Kirkman. It stars Norman Reedus, Andrew Lincoln, Lauren Cohan and Steven Yuen.

“We could not be more excited for October 12th as we share new episodes of ‘The Walking Dead’ with fans around the globe,” said AMC president Charlie Collier. “In advance of Sunday’s season five premiere, AMC proudly confirms a sixth season order of this extraordinary series. Thank you to Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, the terrific executive producers, and the entire team who brings this compelling world and these rich characters to life. There’s plenty more Dead ahead thanks to their impressive, collective effort.”

Last season’s The Walking Dead averaged a stunning 18.4 million total viewers and 12.2 million in that 18-49 demographic. With its mighty success, AMC has announced that there are plans to produce a spinoff with “plenty more Dead.” Details are minimal, but it is said to follow the early days of the zombie apocalypse.

Season five of The Walking Dead returns Sunday, October 12th at 9/8c on AMC.
