Even though True Blood’s seventh and final season will be airing this summer, fans of the hit HBO series may have the opportunity to see more of the show in the future in a whole new way.
Series composer Nathan Barr revealed Tuesday at the series’ final season premiere in Los Angeles that he pitched an idea for a True Blood musical to HBO and series creator Alan Ball
Barr stated that the musical would revolve around the main character, Sookie Stackhouse, who is portrayed by Anna Paquin in the series. However, Barr is finding difficulty in cutting down the seven-season series into one musical.
“I think we’re really going to try to return to the roots of the show,” he stated.
Stephen Moyer, who plays vampire Bill Compton, assisted Barr in coming up with some musical samples for the project’s pitch. Moyer is no stranger to musicals, as he displayed his vocal chops last December in NBC’s live production of The Sound of Music.
Barr also added that he hopes to have a workshop version of the musical in about a year, but is hesitant to say the show is heading to Broadway.
“There’s no guarantees,” he said. “But I think the direction we’re heading in is really exciting.”
