‘Stranger Things’ To Get Stranger In 2017

It was inevitable, but Netflix has made it official. The show that was rejected by more than 15 networks, Stranger Things, will have a second season in 2017.

Since its July 15 premiere, the ’80s-set supernatural drama, that has more than a passing resemblance to something Steven Spielberg and Stephen King would have concocted, has been the most buzzed about series. Developed by Matt and Ross Duffer (aka The Duffer Brothers), they teased about the possibility of a second season when speaking with members of the Television Critics Association over the summer.

“There’s definitely some dangling threads at the end,” Matt Duffer said. “It’s open-ended so that if people want it, if Netflix wanted it, we could explore that and continue the storyline.”

With only eight episodes it was easy enough to binge-watch over a weekend. But this was no ordinary junk food binge show; Stranger Things has been getting tons of critical praise and was one of Netflix’s most viewed programs within its first 35 days. Deadline reports (via stats provided by Symphony Advanced Media), that the series averaged 14.07 million adults 18-49, behind top-ranked Orange is the New Black (for its fourth season) and the first season of Fuller House.

Details regarding the second season are scarce at this point. However, the Duffer brothers have confirmed the season will consist of nine episodes. The series’ Wikipedia page even includes the following episode titles: “Madmax,” “The Boy Who Came Back To Life,” “The Pumpkin Patch,” “The Palace,” “The Storm, “The Pollywog,” “The Secret Cabin,” “The Brain,” and “The Lost Brother.” Let the speculation begin.
