Starz Cancels Spartacus

It looks like the third season of the Starz show Spartacus will be its last.

The show will end after this season’s 10th episode but creator Steven S. DeKnight promised that the remaining episodes will be the best yet.

“This season is bigger than anything we’ve attempted. The scope and scale is just amazing. We’re dealing with massive battles between thousands of people. We hope to leave people feel satisfied.” said DeKnight.

The series is a visual hit for stars and was inspired by the movie 300. When it first debuted the ratings soared to 6 million viewers, however after Spartacus star Andy Whitfield was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma season two was halted.  When Whitfield passed away newcomer Liam McIntryre took over the role, at which point its success was never quite duplicated.

“Looking at the story in the history books, it’s wave after wave of Roman senators going after Spartacus who are defeated until Roman general Marcus Crassus comes in. So let’s pick out the most interesting moments in this struggle and lay out a clear narrative for Spartacus and his rebellion. I wanted to lay out a strong forward narrative with a strong antagonist.” said DeKnight.

Spartacus season 3 airs on Starz on June 8th at 9pm ET/PT.
