‘SpongeBob’ Musical May Be Heading to Broadway

At its upfront Wednesday, Nickelodeon revealed that it is currently working on a SpongeBob SquarePants musical that could potentially hit Broadway.

The upfront also featured a performance of the musical’s opening song titled “Bikini Bottom Day,” and a reporter snapped a photo of it for Twitter:

The network confirmed the news to Entertainment Weekly and also revealed that artists including Aerosmith, Lady Antebellum, John Legend, Sara Bareilles, and T.I. will be contributing original music to the show. Tina Landau will serve as director.
