It’s everyone’s greatest fear; jumping out of a plane with no parachute. People wouldn’t put themselves in a situation like this, except for skydiver Luke Aikins.
Aikins set to do something no one has ever done, jump out of an airplane at 25,000 feet with no parachute or wingsuit. The only thing saving Luke for a safe landing is a giant net, suspended 200 feet above the California dessert.
Stride Gum, the stunts sponsor, is naming it Heaven Sent and the results exceed the titles expectations!
Temperature near zero degrees, Luke drops from 25,000 feet going 150 mph. The only thing used to guide him for a safe landing is the landing lights on the ground and his team. Once he reached 5,000 his team lets him loose, with his marker reaching at 2,000 feet. Once Luke reached 2,000 feet, his only focus is landing safely on the net.
His final, yet pivotal step, was to turn towards his back for a safe landing on the net. Luckily for Aikins, everything from take off, to skydiving 25,000 feet, and landing on the net was executed without any issues!
There was a change with Luke having to wear a parachute the day of the stunt, but moments before the crew got the okay to not wear the parachute. Wearing the parachute would of been a huge difference in the plans and the possibility of the stunt not going as planned elevated dramatically.
” I’m almost levitating, it feels incredible” said Aikins.
Aikins has truly proved that anything is possible!
