Simon Cowell Sets Guinness Record for World’s Most Successful TV Format
Guinness World Records has announced that Simon Cowell’s Got Talent franchise has officially become the most popular reality television in the world. The series has set a record of 59 different versions made in 58 different territories across the globe.
The show originated in 2007 as Britain’s Got Talent, before being adapted to various other countries. Some of the latest countries to air Got Talent are Iceland, Kazakhstan, Moldova and Brazil.
Guinness World Records president Alistair Richards stated,”We are delighted to confirm that Got Talent has broken the previous world record and is now the official Guinness World Record holder for the most successful reality television format, a landmark moment in television record-breaking history. Congratulations.”
The reality show that formerly held the title of being the most popular reality television show in the world was Strictly Come Dancing, also known as Dancing With the Stars. The program airs in 38 different countries.
“I am very proud that Got Talent is a homegrown British show,” Cowell stated. “We owe its success to a group of very talented producers all over the world who have made this happen. And of course amazing talent.”
The talent program has helped launch the careers of Susan Boyle from Britain’s Got Talent and Jackie Evancho from America’s Got Talent.
The ninth season of America’s Got Talent will premiere next month.
