After last week’s heartbreaking farewell to Cory Monteith’s character, Finn Hudson, show creator Ryan Murphy has announced Glee‘s next season will be it’s last.
Murphy talked to reporters at an FX event at the Paley Center last night saying, “The whole [last] year of the show — which will be next year — was really designed around Rachel-Cory/Finn story. I always knew that. I always knew how it would end.”
Murphy continued, “I knew what the last shot was — he was in it. I knew what the last line was; she said it to him. So when a tragedy like that happens you sort of have to pause and figure out what you want to do.”
Due to Monteith’s tragic death, Murphy has to come up with a complete new storyline to finish out the show. He has a “good idea” of what the new ending will look like and plans to pitch it to studio executives next month.
“I think it’s very satisfactory and kind of in his honor, which I love,” he said of the new storyline.
As for moving on the show without his lead character Finn Hudson, “It’s hard every day,” Murphy said.
