‘Roseanne’ Coming Back To ABC In 2018

Who can ever forget the opening title sequence of Roseanne? That laugh. We all remember it.

In the ever-changing television landscape where the once BIG THREE (ABC, NBC, CBS), then BIG FOUR with the addition of Fox, has morphed considerably with outlets like Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime, there seems to be growing trend for revivals. Previously, you would see this in film where a TV property would get the big screen treatment. But more and more shows from years past are popping back up on the small screen. From Arrested Development (once on Fox, now on Netflix) to David Lynch’s Twin Peaks coming back to television 27 years after the original two-year run, old shows are back in fashion it would seem.

On the heels of NBC delivering a trailer for its upcoming Will & Grace revival, which is committed to a dozen episodes, comes word that ABC is bringing back Roseanne in 2018 for eight episodes. The half-hour comedy series ran on ABC from 1988 to 1997 and it was a hit for the network, centering on the Conners, a working-class family in Illinois. The show starred Roseanne Barr and John Goodman as the parents, along with three children: D.J. (Michael Fishman) was the youngest sibling, Darlene (Sara Gilbert) was the rebellious middle child, and oldest daughter Becky was played by two different actresses (Sarah Chalke and Lecy Goranson), both of whom will be in the show. Other notable stars is Laurie Metcalf as Roseanne’s sister, Jackie.

ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey was very enthusiastic to bring Roseanne back to air, seeing the parallels from when the show was a hit from the late ’80s and into the ’90s.

“The Conners’ joys and struggles are as relevant — and hilarious — today as they were then.”

A premiere date has yet to be announced but this sizzle reel indicates the show will return in 2018.
