Pierce Brosnan Developing Crusades Series with Spike TV
Pierce Brosnan’s production company Irish DreamTime is partnering with Spike TV to develop a scripted series revolving around the crusades during the 12th century called The Crusaders.
Gladiator screenwriter David Franzoni, as well as Michael Finch, will pen the script. Brosnan, Beau St. Clair of Irish DreamTime, Mark Sennet, Brian Gary, and Craig Sheftell will serve as executive producers.
Spike TV calls The Crusaders an “event-series” that will follow two knights heading to the Holy Land to fight in the Third Crusade and the obstacles they face when they arrive. They will encounter famous historical figures, including Richard the Lionheart and Saladin.
Spike TV is also working on another historical drama entitled Tut based on the famous Egyptian king that will air in 2015. The cable channel recently announced it has optioned the script for two additional series, one based on Stephen Frey’s novel War at the Shore and another based on Basket Case by Carl Hiaasen.
