‘Once Upon A Time’ Casts ‘Frozen’s’ Elsa

ABC’s fairy tale drama series Once Upon A Time has cast Georgina Haig as Queen Elsa of Arendelle, who will be the villain for Season 4 of the show.

The series introduced the character in the cliffhanger of the third season finale and used a stand-in actress since Haig had not yet been cast.

Haig is no stranger to the small screen. She previously starred as Etta, the daughter of Peter (Joshua Jackson) and Olivia (Anna Torv) on the final season of Fox’s science-fiction series Fringe. More recently, she has starred on CBS’ new crime drama Reckless.

“We are very well aware of how beloved [“Frozen”] is, so we’re very careful that we want to tell a story that is uniquely ours but also honors those characters that everyone fell in love with this past year,” the show’s creator Adam Horowitz said. Co-creator Eddy Kitsis added that Elsa would be an antagonist who is “clearly misunderstood.”

Earlier this week, it was announced that other Frozen characters  had also been cast. Newcomer Elizabeth Lail will take on the role of Anna, and Greek alum Scott Michael Foster will portray Kristoff.

The Disney film had Broadway superstar Idina Menzel voicing Elsa, Kristen Bell voicing Anna, and Jonathan Groth voicing Kristoff. Frozen went on to be a tremendous success, making $1.26 billion worldwide. It won two Oscars, one for best animated feature and one for best original song for “Let It Go,” which was performed by Menzel.
