Nigel Lythgoe’s time with American Idol has come to a close. The longtime producer tweeted on Saturday, “Just had 10 days in the Bahamas, rain every day. I get back to the States and get fired. Sad!”
Lythgoe admits the reason behind the firing is nothing personal. “It’s not a personal thing they just feel IDOL needs new leadership after 12 Seasons.” In fact the firing of the 63-year-old producer is just one of the many moves Fox is making in order to revamp American Idol.
While Lythgoe’s time with Idol has come to an end, his relationship with Fox has not, he will remain as an executive producer on the network’s dance show So You Think You Can Dance.
To reassure fans Lythgoe tweeted, “Yes, don’t worry. I’m on #SYTYCD. Fox still loves me.”
