Nielsen Reveals 10 Most Popular Shows on Twitter
For the first time ever, Nielsen ratings took a look at the most popular television shows on Twitter. The media research company decided to launch the Twitter TV ratings last fall with the beginning of the 2013-14 TV season. This week, the 10 most tweeted about television shows from September 1, 2013 to May 25, 2014 were revealed, and Breaking Bad took the top spot.
At the time Nielsen’s Twitter TV ratings began, the final five episodes of the crime drama series were aired. Its series finale reached 9.1 million Twitter users, making it the greatest reach for a single airing. However, The Voice took the prize for most tweets about a single episode for it’s showing on May 13 with 1.92 million tweets.
As for TV specials, the Oscars beat the Grammys in audience size with a reach of 13.9 million, but the Grammys beat the Oscars in total amount of tweets with 13.8 million.
For sports, Super Bowl XLVIIII naturally dominated all sporting events, with the NFC and AFC Championship games rounding out the top 3.
