MTV Cancels ‘Buckwild’ After Shain Gandee’s Death

MTV has decided to cancel it’s controversial reality show about young West Virginians partying their butts off.  The decision to cancel Buckwild comes after 21-year-old Shain Gandee and two other individuals were found dead in a Ford Bronco that was stuck in the mud.  Carbon monoxide poisoning is to blame for their deaths.

“After careful consideration, MTV will not be moving forward with season two of BUCKWILD in West Virginia,” MTV released in a statement. “We love the cast and the show and this was not an easy decision, but given Shain’s tragic passing and essential presence on the show, we felt it was not appropriate to continue without him. Instead, we are working on a meaningful way to pay tribute to his memory on our air and privately.”

The show’s producer J.P. Williams is furious of the networks decision to cancel the show.

“This is the network that has shows about teen pregnancy,” Williams responded to the cancellation of Buckwild, referencing the MTV shows 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom. “They’ll stick by a show that allows you to abandon a child, but a kid dies by accident doing what he does for a living and they cancel the show?”

Williams plans to keep filming the show, cancelled or not, and may fund the venture himself.

“There was no explanation,” Williams said in disgust.  “My job is to protect these kids…This will get ugly.”
