Film legend Max von Sydow is joining the cast of HBO’s Game of Thrones for season six.
The Oscar-nominated actor has starred in a multitude of films over the past few decades, including 1973’s The Exorcist, 1984’s Dune, 1965’s The Greatest Story Ever Told, and 2002’s Minority Report. He will also be featured in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.
In Game of Thrones, von Sydow will be taking over the role of the Three-Eyed Raven, who serves as a tutor for Bran Stark in developing his “warging” abilities. The character was previously seen on the show back in season four and was played by Struan Rodger.
It was also announced recently that former Deadwood star Ian McShane has also been cast on the show. It is unknown who he will play.
HBO also revealed last week that the channel plans for Game of Thrones to last eight seasons.
Season six of the drama series will premiere in 2016.
