‘Madagascar’ Prequel Series Headed to Netflix

Netflix and DreamWorks Animation have teamed up to release All Hail King Julien, a prequel to the successful DreamWorks animation film Madagascar. All Hail King Julien will follow the story of the lemur King Julien, ruler of the jungle, who likes to “move it, move it!”

The first five 22-minute episodes will be available to stream instantly for Netflix members in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, UK, Ireland, the Nordics, Benelux and France starting on December 19th. Additional episodes will be added in the beginning of 2015.

“The combination of comedy, original music and stories of simple lemur life turned upside-down and fabulous by King Julien makes this series unique,” said Margie Cohn, head of television for DreamWorks Animation. “All Hail King Julien is really a showcase for our talented artists to bring the Netflix audience the great storytelling, compelling characters and fantastic design that is the hallmark of DreamWorks Animation.”

King Julien, originally voiced by Sacha Baron Cohen in the 2005 film, will be replaced by Danny Jacobs in All Hail King Julien series. The series will also star Henry Winkler as Julien’s predecessor, Andy Richter as Mort, Kevin Michael Richardson as Maurice, and India de Beaufort as Clover.
