Lights Go Out and Ratings Go Down During Super Bowl XLVII

The lights went out and the television ratings went down during Super Bowl XLVII.

CBS reports that an average 108.41 million viewers tuned in last night to watch the Baltimore Ravens take down the San Francisco 49ers 34-31.  The ratings are down from a year ago when an average 111.3 million viewers watched the Giants defeat the Patriots on NBC.

Even though last night was the third-most-watched game in television history, it didn’t seem to attract many football lovers; at least not until the last 4 minutes of the game when 113.92 million viewers tuned in to watch the 49ers attempt a remarkable comeback run.

I’m not sure what caused the lack of viewers, but some think it was the blackout during the third quarter, while others say the game was too drawn out with TV timeouts.
