Saturday proved not only to be a winning day for Orb, but for NBC as well. The Kentucky Derby’s ratings were up 16% from last year. The race itself drew a 10.4 overnight rating and a 23 share. This race ties the 2010 race with having the highest ratings for a Kentucky Derby since 1992.
Usually there are NBA games on during the Saturday of the Derby. This year, however, there were no NBA games conflicting with the time of the race, nor have the Stanley Cup playoff games begun. With the lack of competition, the Derby scored high.
