In one of Hollywood’s worst kept secrets of 2013, Jennifer Lopez seems like she will be making her way back behind the judges table on the thirteenth season of American Idol.
The news was leaked by her boyfriend Casper Smart during an interview with E! News. When asked if JLo was returning to the FOX reality show, Casper answered, “Yes.”
According to Smart, he thought the network had already made an announcement that Lopez would be returning. That wasn’t the case.
“Returning to American Idol makes sense for Jennifer this season,” an insider told E! News, “as the show’s schedule will allow her to focus on new film and TV projects” while filming. “And, of course, her twins are starting school this year and she will have time for her family.”
Insiders close to the discussions have revealed that a deal is close to being made, but FOX has yet to release an official statement.
Assuming Smart is correct on JLo’s upcoming plans, she will be joining country superstar Keith Urban behind the judges table. Former Idol contestants Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, and Adam Lambert are all being considered as possible candidates to replace outgoing judges Mariah Carey, Randy Jackson and Nicki Minaj.
Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am is also in the mix as a contender for the judging position along with Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, and Fergie.
American Idol returns to FOX for season 13 in January 2014.
