Long haired, quiet, and secluded, many wondered what was going on with Bruce Jenner during his run on Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Was he depressed, was he hiding something, or did he finally feel free with living by himself? Fans wanted to shed light to the situation.
Once news broke that he was going through treatment to become a woman, everything became clear. A few months after Bruce officially came out as Caitlyn, a majority surprisingly accepted it while others simply questioned it.
With her new show, I Am Cait, Jenner goes out to prove what she wants to do for herself, the transgendered community, and for the people who don’t quiet comprehend.
The highly anticipated reality show premiered Sunday night on the E! network with extremely high acclaim. With a 90 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, critics seemed to love the fact that its an honest TV show with a strong message.
The first episode, Meeting Cait, focuses on how the transition effects Caitlyn’s mother, Esther, and her two sisters, Pam and Lisa. While Pam and Lisa accept the transition, Esther is the one who has trouble adjusting saying, “It’s a lot of getting used to, but I will”. “You have the same soul you were born with,” she told Caitlyn. Confronting her mother is the most memorable part of the series so far, and makes a big part of the reality shows core.
The episode also has appearances from Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian, and Kanye West who had some of the most memorable quotes of the show, saying “I think this is one of the strongest things that have happened in our existence as human beings, that are so controlled by perception…You couldn’t have been up against more…and you’re like f*** everybody, this is who I am.”
“Kanye and I have never been very close, but I love his open mindedness, and I love how he’s helped Kim come to grips with this,” Caitlyn responded.
Its obvious what Caitlyn’s plans are for this show. Its not only a show to document her life, but a platform to talk about issues in the transgendered community. Jenner talks about the alarming suicide rates, even visiting Katharine Prescott, the mother of Kyler Prescott who tragically took his own life because other adults wouldn’t accept the fact that he was transgendered.
I Am Cait airs Sundays on E! at 7pm CST!
