After only three episodes into its third season, HBO has renewed the prohibition-era mob saga Boardwalk Empire for a fourth season. The show stars Steve Buscemi as Nucky Thompson, the corrupt county treasurer of Atlantic City based on real life Enoch L. Thompson. The series has won 12 Emmy Awards and been nominated for 30.
HBO released the following statement today:
Terry Winter, Martin Scorsese and the rest of their outstanding team continue to produce a stunning show that never fails to surprise and entertain. We are excited to bring this unique series back for a fourth season.
Real-life historical figures such as New York gambler Arnold Rothstein, Chicago mob-boss Al Capone, New York gangster Charles “Lucky” Luciano and many more are featured in the show.
Boardwalk Empire will most likely return for a fourth season in September 2013.
