The cast of HBO’s Game of Thrones have renewed their contracts and are in for a huge pay raise.
According to THR, the network renegotiated the current contracts with the show’s principal actors in order to include an option for a seventh season. Although details have yet to be released on the amount each actor is expected to earn per episode, the new contracts will reportedly put the cast of Game of Thrones among the highest-paid actors on cable television.
The cast is reported to be broken into two separate pay tiers. The highest paid group, the “A” tier, includes actors Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister).
Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and a number of other regulars on the show represent the lower paid “B” tier.
Just because an actor has renegotiated their contract doesn’t mean that they will be guaranteed that money. Game of Thrones is notorious for killing off characters on a regular basis, no matter the star power, therefore any of the above actors have the possibility of losing not only their jobs, but also their paychecks before the show’s seventh season.
Game of Thrones is currently filming its fifth season in Spain.
